A 13-year-old Bakersfield boy was killed Sunday in a drunken driving crash at 6 p.m. near Shafter, the Kern County Coroner's staff reported.
Brock Christian Bellue was a rear seat passenger in a 2003 Cadillac sports utility vehicle which was broadsided by a 1984 Ford pickup truck at Lerdo Highway and Magnolia Avenue, the staff said.
Bellue was the only one in the crash not wearing a seat belt and he was ejected as the Cadillac overturned several times, California Highway Patrol officers said.
He died an hour later in the emergency room at Kern Medical Center.
The pickup was driven by Gordon D. Tutton, 60, of Wasco, who was arrested on suspicion of felony drunken driving, officers said.
He was going north on Magnolia Avenue at about 40 to 45 mph, failed to stop at a stop sign at Lerdo Highway and broadsided the Cadillac as its driver, Kellie Roland, 40, of Bakersfield, was going about 70 mph east on Lerdo Highway, officers said.
Roland suffered moderate injuries, while another passenger, Jordan C. Root, 14, suffered minor injuries, officers reported.
Tutton and his passenger, Shalie Cole, 21, of Bakersfield both suffered minor injuries.
