Appalachia. 1850. There is a man whose job it is to take upon him the sins of the recently departed. He does this by eating bread and drinking wine that is placed near the body before burial. The people in the community believe this frees them from the bondage of sin so their spirit can go to heaven. They call him the Sin Eater.
Cadi Forbes is a 10-year-old girl, haunted by guilt, who learns about this man and what it is said he can do. She makes the decision to find the sin eater and beg him to eat her sins now so she can be free of the shame she lives with every day of her life.
So begins an exciting, sometimes frightening, quest for forgiveness. Cadi’s journey takes her to places that unlock dark secrets; not only her own, also those of her isolated community. She makes new friends, says farewell to others and learns that sometimes people who seem scary can become the most important people in her life. The result of her quest is ugly, raw and, eventually, redeeming. Cadi meets the One who can forgive any sin and loves her more than she can ever comprehend.
The movie, The Last Sin Eater, will be released on DVD May 8, 2007. Do yourself a favor and read the book first.

Ok, first of all, how come your blog is not going to MyChurch anymore?? I had to check your site directly when I didn't see any entries from you in a couple of days! Now I have to catch up!!
As for the Sin Eater, I am still on the first few chapters, but have it close by just in case I have a few minutes to read. It is one I definitely intend to finish! - Kristine
