Now that gas has officially topped $4/gallon, I am becoming obsessive about maximizing any trip we take with the car. As my husband came home from a trip to his office Sunday evening, I asked him to stop by the grocery store to pick up stuff I'd need for this coming week; you know, cereal, bread and the like.He came home with 12 pounds of ground beef. 12 Pounds.
I now remember why I don't ask him to make quick grocery stops on a regular basis.
He happened to show up at the butcher counter when they were drastically marking down the remains of the day's ground beef and shutting down for the night. When he saw 15% ground beef for .99, he couldn't help himself. I have to give credit where credit is due, though; he only purchased half of the 24 pounds they were trying to unload. Oh, yes; he also got a deal on two pounds of bulk Italian sausage. What a bargain hunter he is!
I now have two bags of mini-meatloaves, three spaghetti entrees, two bags of seasoned taco meat, two shepherd's pies and a dozen hamburger patties safely stored in my deep freezer. I have a little over four pounds of ground beef left and am running out of creative ideas. I'm thinkin' sloppy joes and maybe a batch of ground beef enchiladas. There's only one problem. Making those would require another trip to the store and I don't have enough errands piling up to justify putting my car into service.
I guess I could ask my husband to pick up what I need on the way home from work, yes?
;-P
